Trump also insisted Thursday evening at a rally in Michigan that he “knows a lot about wind. If it doesn’t blow, you can forget about television for that night,” he said.

Wind energy can be stored in a variety of ways, including in something called batteries. Most power grids combine energy provided by different sources — as the Trump administration’s own Energy Department explains on its website for anyone who cares to look. “The wind does not always blow and the sun doesn’t always shine,” the site helpfully notes. Yet the power grid “can accommodate large penetrations of variable renewable power without sacrificing reliability.”

The world is gonna end in 12 years if we don't address climate change

The $2.5 trillion reason we can’t rely on batteries to clean up the grid

It's a lot more than cost.
1 ... Batteries rely on rare earths!
2 ... there's a serious question whether we could ever mine enough Rare Earth minerals. Right now China controls 97% of all rare earth mining sites.

3 ... increased mining of rare earth metals WILL mean more environmental degradation and human health hazards. All rare earth metals contain radioactive elements such as uranium and thorium, which contaminate air, water, soil and groundwater. Metals such as arsenic, barium, copper, aluminum, lead and beryllium will be released during mining into the air or water, and can be toxic to human health.

ALSO, the refinement process for rare earth metals uses toxic acids and results in polluted wastewater that must be properly disposed of. The Chinese estimate that the refinement of one ton of rare earth metals results in 75 cubic meters of acidic wastewater and one ton of radioactive residue. Right now, over 200,000 tons are refined a year. Multiply that by 100s, 1000s, ???

Yeah ....we'll just use batteries.

Right.  And how long will reserves last?  Politicians are naive at best.

IMO, if the left was serious they would support increased nuclear and increased R&D funding for next generation nuclear and fusion.

Wind power grows most where it blows best and where politicians don't have their heads buried in the sand (click on the maps below);

What about bird deaths from wind turbines? How does that fit into environmentalism?

But how many windows are there now compared to turbines?
