Did you notice the VIX and how much the index options soared for next week and beyond today? With the Dec 15th tariff deadline approaching, someone is very worried about an adverse decision to the tariff news. The Monkey Man trader helps you navigate the volatility.

I am guessing that if the market throws a little tantrum here, there will be good tariff news just in time to save it. And why should that surprise anybody. Last week it threw a little tantrum over some tough talk (which by the way only happens at market highs lately). I started to post here that the next China news would be........"China really wants to make a deal" and "talks are progressing really, really well". And that is exactly what happened. The sad part about the December 15th tariffs is that Apple has ONCE AGAIN gone to the President and whined and moaned and groaned. Oh Mr. President, please exempt us. I mean......we have to bring almost all of our stuff from China and uh, we have to compete with SAMSUNG. They are in Korea and they don't have to deal with these crazy tariffs. Please, please cut us some slack and help us. Oh please Mr. Trump. This is JUST NOT FAIR to us.

What makes me sick is that, so far, they have been exempted on the majority of tariffs that would have affected them and probably will be given a break again if the tariffs are not delayed or removed. Why does it make me sick? Am I against Apple. The answer is NO! But, I owned a distribution company for many years. Over those years I dealt with hundreds of importers, with products coming from many different countries. Obviously, the last several years the bulk of imported products that I bought originated in China. EVERY single importer that I dealt with had tons of competition. And that competition came from other importers. some of whom were bringing in merchandise from KOREA or Vietnam or India or Pakistan or Mexico or wherever. There are literally thousands and thousands of small to medium sized importers in this country WHO ARE FACING COMPETITION EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THEIR EXISTENCE. That competition was cutthroat BEFORE the tariffs ever started. I can only imagine how difficult it is now to be depending on Chinese imports and, at the same time, facing competitors who are bringing in the exact same products from other countries. IS THERE ANYBODY TO GO WHINING AND BEGGING AND PLEADING FOR THEM? NO! The sum of their parts is greater than Apple but nobody cares. They aren't listed on the exchanges. They don't have their name in lights. They aren't market leaders with huge cash stockpiles and tons of political (and other) influence. If you are going to do it, do it for everybody. Treat them all the same.

I second that, great comments. Regarding Apple products: if you are considering avoiding Windoze, don't forget Ubuntu or similar distributions of Linux make really good desktops these days, far better than Windoze for stability and security, just as easy to use if not easier, and absolutely free.

Absolutely agree. I use Linux Mint for 2 years - absolutely great!
