NYC doing good now is great proof, that large number of infections are a good thing.

It must be building herd immunity.

I have done all normal activities in March, April, May and June. But never got infected.

Never wore a mask until June and only if the establishment made it mandatory.

So thoughts were going in circles in my brain.... How did an 80 year old fart like me escape covid-19?

I have shopped at Walmart every week without a mask, been to my community Gym every day, dined in restaurants in March & June, visited cancer hospital every 3 weeks, was in bank to retrieve my hand gun from safe deposit box, got fitted for new glasses, filled gas several times, walked on the beautiful Saint Augustine beach, etc etc.

Well it turns out it I did NOT escape covid-19 infection! I had this dry cough in early March. I never remember dry cough before, it is usually productive. Our Carnival Cruise ending on February 29th was crowded, and we never missed crowded buffets and stage shows and bars. So I must have caught a mild covid-19 infection along with my wife who is battling cancer, on the cruise. We both had dry cough upon returning from cruise. We just ignored it as we do all minor colds and coughs. We both must have acquired immunity from the mild infection and that explains why I never caught infection again since March.

You could get an antibody test to find out. I think they are approaching the point where they may be reasonably accurate.

the reason NYC is doing so well currently, to answer your question,is because the lockdown was done way too late, so NY had the chance to do a more normal viral curve as you can clearly see from the chart above.

It is not going to have another major spike.....

Have you considered the possibility that if NY doesn't have another spike, it may be because we have an informed and intelligent governor who is taking small steps in opening the City, will take action to reduce another spike, and that New Yorkers will behave responsibly to be compliant with those restrictions? I sure hope you don't make trades based on one piece of data and ignore all other technical indicators.

LOL

Is all this pessimism a New York thing?

Seems to be mostly New Yorkers spreading the doom...

My suggestion to you is to volunteer at an ER in Arizona or Texas. It may shift your perspective.

If human suffering doesn't reach you, consider this information that has another focus - masks. They don't comment about herd-immunity or argue that the the crises is exaggerated, but they address the economic cost and the need to cut the growth of new cases:

My point is that other areas will soon have equally dramatic declines without the extreme carnage....clear enough?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All predictions in past were wrong, we will see in a couple weeks  if there is any dramatic downturn anywhere,so far none.

The real carnage for NY is in the future, after they pull money from the Police.  I have to believe the people will vote that down.

For the record: on Friday June 26 I have taken the NYC subway twice (from outside of Manhattan to Manhattan and back) in rush hours.

I have seen a total of 2 people not wearing a mask a 99.99 pct compliance. One seamed like a young tourist, the other one a local person.

I have decided to carry extra masks and hand them to people not wearing one when I visit Manhattan riding the subway again.

On the streets of Manhattan I saw very few people not wearing a mask. Some wore the mask improperly, not covering their nose,

I guess those people meant to pull it up once they were in a crowded situation.

Outside of Manhattan it is a different story. I live on the border of Brooklyn and Queens and see many people not wearing a mask.

On the weekend only about 2/3 of people I encountered wore a mask.

As I am close to 80 I am very concerned that the virus will linger on and I won't be able to attend crowded events any more.

What's happening in some of the other parts of the country seems to me like Kool-Aid/Jonestown redux, large swaths of the current population blindly

following their great leader.

Cheers,

F&D

Dr Fauci top virus scientist in country, said today we could soon have 100,000 new virus cases a day

He lives in Washington D.C. His comment was on  all news programs, but maybe you don't see the news, and think he  does not know what he is talking about. Why insult New Yorkers? No one asked where you live.
