Actually, there's a lot of data that suggests that it WILL prevent more hospitalizations and deaths than masking, which has very little supporting it. I don't know that there's any good data on the efficacy of distancing, though it stands to reason it will be pretty effective.

Feel free to go through the studies. The link is voluminous.

Research has found associations between low levels of vitamin D and increased risk for a range of health problems, including bone fractures, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, colorectal cancer, depressed moods, cognitive decline and impaired immune systems leaving them more vulnerable to a host of diseases or more severe illness for these diseases as well as COVID. Those with damage to their liver, kidneys, and with G.I. problems don't absorb or metabolize vitamin D adequately. Even obesity leads to reduced levels.

It has been established that those whose health is more compromised will be more likely to be hospitalized with more severe COVID and have higher rates of death. Correlation is not synonymous with causality. Low vitamin D may not be the primary cause of increased severity of COVID and its role may be overestimated by isolating this factor. Also, we don't yet have any information suggesting that those who are not deficient are more protected from COVID if they take supplements to increase their levels.

The relationship between Vitamin D and COVID is complex with many unknowns. One issue not yet determined is whether the COVID patients found to be deficient were also deficient before they were infected. IOW, COVID may have reduced their Vitamin D levels.

I'm confused by your statement that there's a lot of data suggesting vitamin D supplements will prevent more hospitalizations and deaths than masking. Please direct me to a comprehensive study with these findings. I think that's highly unlikely.

Fantastic article summarizing what we know. More research can and will narrow down the most effective dosages and later what combinations and factors are best or most important. But we know enough now.

Vitamin D very important, but with a course of therapy WITH Ivermectin .....

Have you guys followed the recent news on Ivermectin ?

This doctor saying that it has dramatically positive outcomes for outpatient, inpatient and even reducing number of infections etc.

Dr. Pierre Kory, President of the Frontline COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC), called for the government to swiftly review the already expansive and still rapidly emerging medical evidence on Ivermectin.

Ivermecin effective in PREVENTION

https://covid19criticalcare.com/     (watch the video at the top of the page)

Here is the protocol which also includes Vitamin D

https://covid19criti...-27-ENGLISH.pdf

But of course it will be a year or longer before the government and hospitals 'green light' this .

The real question is what the hell is YOUR hospital course of therapy going to be ??????????????

Seems like we have to be our own doctor .

I'm not opposed to treating people with Vitamin D who are deficient. In fact, I've been taking this supplement for years because I usually test at the lower end of Normal and am aware of numerous illnesses for which adequate levels are protective, including COVID-19. My objection to your comments is that you overstate the results of the findings.

In the studies mentioned in your link, there were positive findings for those who were Vitamin D deficient. The more comprehensive study, done in Austria of 475 patients, had excellent results with mortality cut in half when treating severe vitamin D deficiency for all ICU patients - not COVID-19. And, supplementation had no benefit for those who were not deficient.

I agree with your recommendation that everyone be tested for this deficiency and treated when needed. My greatest objection is to your statement that supplementation "WILL prevent more hospitalizations and deaths than masking, which has very little supporting it." I was referring to this statement when I asked for research substantiating your comment.

You also said, "I don't know that there's any good data on the efficacy of distancing, though it stands to reason it will be pretty effective." It seems that you agree that distance will protect people from infection but masks not? or just a little? And Vitamin D more? Evidence?

The Sun Is Your Best Source of Vitamin D and it lowers cholesterol too!

"There's good reason why vitamin D is called “the sunshine vitamin.” When your skin is exposed to sunlight, it makes vitamin D from cholesterol. The sun's ultraviolet B (UVB) rays hit cholesterol in the skin cells, providing the energy for vitamin D synthesis to occur."

Of course you will then die from skin cancer... ;-(

I dunno how advisable it would be to take an antibiotic(doxycycline) as a prophylactic for COVID though. The NIH link you provided says it does not recommend using ivermectin for COVID anyway.
