Europe’s ”Green New Disaster” lessons for America

Europe is now dealing with electricity prices that have increased by 400% alongside widespread food shortages.

Soaring energy prices and crippling shortages have rippled across the Atlantic.

European governments are frantically turning back to fossil fuel energy and nuclear power after curtailing them in their rush into green energy — primarily wind power.
The key failing of wind energy compared to fossil fuels and nuclear power is that it can’t provide base load power to the electricity grid on demand because the wind doesn’t always blow.
It also can’t be stored until needed at levels required to power industrialized countries.

Of course, proponents of wind energy, doubling down on failure, insist the solution is to convert to wind power even faster, despite its unreliability.

The province’s Independent Electricity System Operator issued a dire warning that “completely phasing out natural gas generation by 2030 would lead to blackouts and the system changes that would be required would increase residential electricity bills by 60%.

Houston Blames Water Outage on Failure of Backup Transformer

The outage that shuttered schools, delayed surgeries and forced some restaurants and other businesses to close their doors in the fourth-largest US city on Monday may stretch into a second day.

I wonder where you can charge your EV's today?
Imagine traveling cross-country thru Houston today...looking for a very long extension cord.

I once plugged an extension cord into itself and got free electricity.
Then I added a 3-way plug and got 220 volts!

Problem solved.

...Or was I just "California Dreaming"?

FBI joins probe into North Carolina countywide blackout as motive for gunfire at power substations unclear

Just after 7 p.m. Saturday, power outages began in the Carthage area before spreading to the greater majority of central and southern Moore County. Power crews and deputies who responded to the scene found “extensive damage” at two substations that was being investigated as a “criminal occurrence” and “intentional vandalism.”

Jeff Brooks, from Duke Energy, said Sunday he expected outages to last as long as until Thursday.

Who Is Purposely Sabotaging Power Plants All Over America?
December 8, 2022
During the first eight months of this year, there were a total of 106 attacks on the electrical grid in the United States, and that represents the highest number ever recorded in a single year.
The recent incident in North Carolina was particularly alarming.
At approximately 7 PM on Saturday night, gunfire erupted at two electrical substations in Moore County.  Officials are calling this “an intentional and coordinated attack”

The following comes from NBC News…

Nearly 600 electric emergency incidents and disturbances were caused by suspected and confirmed physical attacks and vandalism on the electric grid in those nine years, the reports show. There have been 106 attack or vandalism incidents from January through August 2022, which is the latest the Energy Department data tracks. Among the years reviewed by NBC News, 2022 is the first that reached triple digits and it only contains eight months of data

What will you do?

How will you charge your EV?

EVs can lose up to 35% of their range in freezing conditions and take longer to charge in cold temperatures
Keeping the inside of the vehicle warm in winter is usually the biggest drain on EV range, especially when ambient temperatures plunge below 15°.
Ironically, driving only a few miles a day will also shorten your range estimate.
AAA found the loss in driving range could be as high as 41% with the heater on full blast.
Anything below 40 or above 115 degrees Fahrenheit and they’re not going to deliver their peak performance," according to Wired.

Tesla owner says he had to cancel Christmas plans because car would not charge in freezing weather!

Domenick Nati told Insider that he plugged his electric car into a supercharger on Friday when it was 19 degrees outside. The car's battery level was at 40% at the time.

"Two hours went by and not much changed," Nati told the outlet. "It was very slow and the numbers got lower as the temperature dropped. Eventually, it stopped charging altogether."

Nati said he tried charging the car at home, but having no luck there he went to another supercharger Saturday afternoon.

Nati posted a video on TikTok on Saturday in which he showed what happened, noting that the same thing had happened the day before.

READ ON THE FOX BUSINESS APP

"Battery is heating – Keep charge cable inserted," the supercharger's screen said when he plugged in, More than an hour later, however, nothing changed, he said. Nati said he eventually decided to leave the car plugged in and got a ride home.

Fox Business reached out to Tesla for comment, but they did not immediately respond.

TESLA SLASHES PRICES BY $7,500 IN END-OF-YEAR SALE

I had dinner last night with a local new car dealer who told me he took in a TESLA as a trade-in.

It sat on the lot 4 months before they finally sold it for a $4,000 loss.

Man learns it will take a week to charge new electric truck.
Level Two chargers can cost “from $500 to $2,000 before installation” and require 250V circuitry

Wyoming wants to phase out sales of new EVs by 2035

"I just don’t appreciate when other states try to force technology that isn’t ready,”

With an eye on its vital oil and gas industry, Wyoming’s state legislature is considering a resolution that calls for a phaseout of new electric vehicle sales by 2035.

Senator Boner, one of the bill’s co-sponsors, told the Cowboy State Daily. “I’m interested in making sure that the solutions that some folks want to the so-called climate crisis are actually practical in real life. I just don’t appreciate when other states try to force technology that isn’t ready,”
