As HUI catches wind again this morn my frazzled gold nerves have gained enough strength to talk gold stocks. Cirrus posted a list of his favorites yesterday and stated that he favors those that have held up best through the correction. I agree with this approach and believe the first to new highs are signaling their strength. AUY and GOLD stand out here. Both appear to breaking from large cup and handles. It is no coincidence that these two also display the best fundamentals I have seen. At CBSmarketwatch.com you get a nice scan. I'll mention 3 #s. Return on Equity Profit Shares out standing AUY 114% 3.7% 122 mil. GOLD 40% 43% 60 mil. Please post if you find similar or better examples. At some point if this bull continues the institutions will all buy at once. They watch fundamentals. Another clue to emerging juniors and particularly the micros has been recent volume. The "Volume +" indicator will show big black sticks at or before blastoff. The most spectacular example I have seen lately is CGHI. Slothrup I believe mentioned this micro. If you look at the weekly vol of IVN.v back in the summer of 2003 you'll see a similar jump of basically nothing to over 20 mil. shares. IVN went up 600% in 5 mo. the best gain of my life. I FF CGHI takes off again soon. Other micros with notable vol surges are NAU.V PTM.V EPM.V CBA.V DEZ Please post if you see others Long AUY, DEZ, GOLD from last week.

Good comments, Paul. The CGHI move was the result of a buy-out offer -- but that doesn't mean it can't go higher if the metal takes off. Matter of fact, I'm certain they'd readjust the offer. I know nothing of the fundamentals. All I do is track all charts of anyting mining related and then see what jumps off the screen.

The Financial New Hour web site is coming out with a Mutual fund of the Juniors. Puplava is working to evaluate a selection of "top" juniors for the core of this new fund. I hold a group of juniors but I am not recommending them to anyone currentlyu. Islander.

Paul, great topic. It's been a long time since I was really looking to buy gold stocks, but the time is coming, in my opinion. I certainly may be wrong, too, and now might be the time.

Anyway, I appreciate your posting and the others' as well, and perhaps we can bump this topic up if necessary to keep it on the first page of the Gold Board. I've been looking very hard at gas, oil, uranium, water and coal issues, and I'll try and get my ducks in a row as far as mining stocks.

Thanks,

Doug
