chart observations very briefly and the fundy reasons these are core holding to which I am adding on dips:

PANL tested and held the 14.22 visible on the chart as a former swing high....risk measurement to lower level obvious on the PnF chart.

http://stockcharts.com/gallery/?panl

note price action relative to the rising bottoms trendline on the weekly chart

note the $14.22 visible on the weekly chart as the 2005 high

PnF chart measures the minimum risk to 11.99....nothing yet more than a 3-box reversal on the PnF chart..PnF remains showing a bullish pattern until this becomes more than a 3 or 4-box reversal...note support in 13.50 to 13.99 zone on PnF.

note the long-term price channel -

http://bigcharts.mar...time=20&x=0&y=0

higher lows have controlled the pattern since early '05, while lower highs have controlled the longer pattern since 2000.

3/23 news -

Universal Display initiated with a Buy at MDB Capital (PANL) 7.03 +0.09: MDB Capital initiates PANL with a Buy. Firm's investment thesis is based on their view of OLEDs being the next-generation technology in flat panel displays and other applications, rapid growth and adoption of OLEDs over the next decade and PANL's leading position as a pure-play company with a broad IP portfolio. Firm thinks the stock could appreciate 50% or more in the next 12-24 months. They believe that the current weakness in PANL stock price, owing to general market conditions, provides a buying opportunity.

RNAI related:

Wet AMD (age-related macular degeneration) is the dominant cause of blindness impacting several million folks in the U.S.

It is estimated that as a greater percentage of the population reaches over age 60, even more folks will need access to treatment since prevention is currently not available other than educating people to wear UV protective rated sunglasses even on cloudy days.

A 7-year trial has recently started to determine the voracity of vitamin therapy.

Companies currently in clinical trials with medicines for treating wet AMD (the wet form accounts for 90% of serious and rapid vision loss, while the dry form almost always precedes the wet form...central vision requires three healthy components of the eye in this front-to-back sequence: the retina, pigmentation layer, blood vessels....AMD causes cells to die or causes bleeding, and these events occur from a lifetime accumulation of UV exposure...wearing sunglasses with UV protection rating can prevent such exposure)

http://stockcharts.com/gallery/?rnai

http://stockcharts.com/gallery/?dna
Lucentis

http://stockcharts.com/gallery/?rheo

Companies which currently have the medicines listed below which are used in treatment protocols for wet AMD:

Macugen, released Feb. '05-

http://stockcharts.com/gallery/?osip

Visudyne photodynamic therapy, released over 4 years ago approx. -

http://stockcharts.com/gallery/?nvs

both drugs listed above cost about $2,000 per treatment for the drug only, not incl. physician fees, and they need to be administered relatively often in many cases to be effective...my experience with the elderly patients and even one gentleman who is about 50 is that these treatments in the minds of the patients have not been satisfactory because the vision loss persists.

The retinal specialists actually take photos of the eye by using dye injection to diagnose the treatment regimen, and the photos clearly show leakage in the blood vessels and clearly show dying cells in the pigment layer.

-----------

In addition, a common cancer drug has been found by accident to assist with slowing the progress of wet AMD, and some retinal specialists have added it to their bag of tricks...Spend some time in the office of a retinal specialist and you will be surprised how many folks age 60 or over are losing their sight and helpless to do much about it simply from the lack of consistently wearing sunglasses.

Competitors:

* Advanced Medical Optics (NYSE: EYE - News)
* LCA-Vision (Nasdaq: LCAV - News)
* NovaMed (Nasdaq: NOVA - News)
* Orion HealthCorp (AMEX: ONH - News)
* United Surgical Partners (Nasdaq: USPI - News)

All of these compete with TLCV which partly owns RHEO...recent news about TLCV's stake in RHEO:

One Fool says:
There's a bit of good news at TLC, however. The company's AMD division, meaning its majority investment in Canada's unprofitable OccuLogix (Nasdaq: RHEO - News), is about to get a lift as a result of TLC's sale of 800,000 shares of Occulogix some time prior to April. Depending on when the shares were actually disposed of, this sale should generate in excess of $2 million in cash for TLC either in this quarter or Q2. It will also permit TLC to cease consolidating Occulogix's losses with its own financial reporting, perhaps boosting TLC's net margins, and also making it easier for investors to see how the core LASIK business is doing, independent of OccuLogix's troubles.

I have posted this info. before, and here are the links again that provide detailed info. on why UV damages the eye from the time of birth and how the damage is cumulative:

this is one of several health-related subjects I have at a "healthwatch" blog I created:

#1 Tip for Eye Health
#1 tip is wear sunglasses, especially if children:

Link to article from the Cole Eye Institute at the Cleveland Clinic that explains the need for sunglasses in detail:

7 essential habits for eye health:

http://vision.about....tseyehealth.htm

Many parents don't think about sunglasses for their children, but experts say that sun damage to the eye is cumulative over a person's lifetime...this link explains in simple terms how the damage is caused:

http://www.allaboutv...glasses/spf.htm

Basic info. about protecting the eyes of children:

from the American Academy of Opthalmology -

about choosing sunglasses for children -

http://www.allaboutv...lasses/kids.htm

a guide for parents on eye health -

http://www.allaboutvision.com/parents/

This from the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford Univ. -

Protect your child's eyes from the sun:

Although parents go through great lengths to protect their children's skin from the harmful rays of the sun, many forget that the eyes need to be protected, too. Nearly half of American parents do not regularly provide their children with sunglasses that protect their eyes from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. Exposure to sun may set children up for potential vision problems later in life.

The sun can cause sunburned corneas, cancer of the eyelid, cataracts, and macular degeneration, among other problems. In addition, children are more susceptible because their lenses do not block as much UV as adult lenses. Children also tend to spend more time outdoors than their parents, often in places where there is a lot of sun reflection - beaches, pools, and amusement parks. Most UV eye damage is cumulative.

Protecting a child's eyes from the sun is simple:

Make sure your child wears a wide-brimmed hat that shades his/her face.
Buy your child sunglasses that block both kinds of UV rays. Make sure the sunglasses fit properly and are comfortable.

Definitions:

Definition: Macular degeneration is loss of straight-ahead or central vision caused by deterioration of a portion of the inner back lining of the eye known as the retina, where the macula is located.

Definition: The macula is the central portion of the inner back lining of the eye ( retina), where light-sensitive cells are concentrated and finely focused vision occurs.

Definition: Drusen is the name of the damaged spots in the macula. A drusen is a yellowish spot that forms indicating that there is an area of damage. Sunlight is particularly harmful to the retina and can cause drusen.

Definition: Pigment - There is a very rich pigment that covers the back of the eye. This pigment is protective. Lutein is important because it determines the thickness of the yellow macular pigment layer. Yellow lutein is located in a layer covering the all important rods and cones of the retina. Thus this layer protects these highly sensitive areas from the damage of unfiltered sunlight. The thicker and richer this layer becomes, the more protection that is offered against the oxidative damage of sunlight.

Definition: What are lutein and zeaxanthin? These are two chemicals from a group of substances called carotenoids. Carotenes are derived from tuberous plants like carrots, yams, sweet potatoes, and winter squash. There is also a group called xanthophylls and these are derived from plant leaves. The most important xanthophyll for AMD is lutein. Lutein is found in spinach, kale, collard and mustard greens, and egg yolks. Plants make other types of xanthophylls; however, lutein is the only one that accumulates in the eye. Zeaxanthin is much like lutein and together they help produce a richer and more vibrant pigment in the retina.

I read the articles, and as an Ophthalmologist, I have serious doubts that this RNAI product will add much to the currently available wet ARMD treatments. You must realize that, while ARMD is very common in the elderly population, only 15% of ARMD patients have the "wet" type. Not all of those patients have the type of "wet" ARMD that may be responsive to treatment. Add to this the fact that for the past year, retinal specialists all over the country have been using Avastin (Genentech) and diluting it down for intravitreal injection (in an off-label use). The cost per dose? $50.00! And, it is at least as effective as the other VEGF-inhibitors. This is why Avastin sales have been through the roof the past year...not for colorectal cancer treatment (as per its indication), but for wet ARMD treatment. Quite frankly, I don't see how this product will compete. JMHO
