Here's some interesting stuff to sift through when the markets get too boring...
First, a major consortium update brought to you by the American Heart Association together with the ACSM, American College of SPorts Medicine. THey are finally updating the 1995 exercise guidelines based on a mammouth review. The bottom line: vigorous aerobics for 20 to 30 minutes 3 times a week is the minimum. They allow for 2 to 3 short bursts for those who are "too busy" to do it all at once. Anyway, worth a read:

Second, a highly revealing review of the etiology, misinformation and burden of diabetes in the New York Times. A major article. Points out how little of diabetes is obesity induced, how much genetics plays a role and how critical it is to aggressively treat cholesterol and high blood pressure, not just carbs and sugar. I am sure this article will raise shackles and can't wait for the flood of letters to the editor at the NYT (or here ) but it is worth it, for the controversial issues it brings to light. It can be found in the August 20th NYT.
Finally, a recent interesting review on whether aerobic exercise helps you think better.... (drumroll.......) the answer is: YES. If you want to stay sharp, don't study TA charts, get on your treadmill for 30 minutes and bust some hump.
