the June issue of the Smithsonian has a good article and some fun photos of the role John D. Rock., Jr. initially had in acquiring the private land that now forms the park. The family recently gave one of the family retreats and over 1000 acres to the park. This family knows what philanthropy is, and all descendants are expected to carry the philanthropy torch in a variety of ways. it is worth the time to check out this issue of the Smithsonian...even simply for the photos of the old times in the wild west. Yes, it is still that wild out here (almost)...and free range cattle roam much of the forest and mountains of WY. Most of the roundups are being completed this week and next. We had our first snow Monday a.m. This year buffalo are being legally hunted on the protected elk refuge because they are encroaching on the elk winter grazing land. We saw 10,000 buffalo on the elk refuge perimeter last winter...near Antelope Flats, WY.
