Australian electrical system operator orders wind farms to cut back production in wake of blackout

TEN South Australian wind farms have been ordered to limit generation in the wake of the disastrous statewide power blackout because the national electricity market operator has declared they have not performed properly.

The state’s biggest wind farm, at Snowtown, is among those which the Australian Energy Market Operator has targeted in its “management and analysis” of last Wednesday’s unprecedented power outage as it gradually restores the power network. The move will prompt further questions over whether renewable energy jeopardised electricity grid stability and triggered the cascading blackout, which started when fierce winds damaged 23 Mid North transmission towers and severed three high-voltage lines.

Victims of the South Australia Statewide Blackout to Sue Wind Farm Operators

During the recent statewide blackout in South Australia, there is no doubt that unstable output from wind farms triggered the cascade of events which caused the power outage. The question is – are wind farm operators liable for the economic harm their “product” caused?

Parts of South Australia blacked out again

Don’t expect South Australia to provide reliable electricity.

Wind farms were only generating at 6% of their rated capacity when the fault hit.

Another successful government treasury transfer fraud to the 1% and quid pro quo back to the politicians.

Wake up lemmings.

Rolling blackouts ordered in SA in 40C heat

The Wonderful World of Renewables

South Australia, with 40% renewables, is lucky this has been a mild summer.*

Welcome to your load-shedding future:

Rolling blackouts ordered in Adelaide as city swelters

Widespread power blackouts were imposed across Adelaide and parts of South Australia with heatwave conditions forcing authorities to impose load shedding.

About 40,000 properties were without electricity supplies for about 30 minutes because of what SA Power Networks said was a direction by the Australian Energy Market Regulator.  — The Australian

At 6pm tonight wind power was producing less than 100MW (about 7% of its rated capacity):

Australia is in Green Energy Chaos

Australia never built the coal backup plants like Germany.  They are now flailing, unable to fess up to what they have done.  Both parties were "all in" on green energy.

Faced with national bill shock, dismal polls, and even leadership rumors, Australian PM Turnbull is, at last, dropping the deadweight Finkel Clean Energy Target. The biggest poisoned-band-aid will not be plastered on, though mini bandaids will be.

Too much regulation is never enough and the energy market is still being micromanaged.

Cabinet dumps Clean Energy Target for new ‘affordable, reliable’ power plan

[ABC news] A Clean Energy Target recommended by Australia’s chief scientist will not be adopted, with the Federal Government instead proposing a new plan to bring down electricity prices.

The answer to pointless overdone, intrusive and clumsy regulation is apparently to do even more of it:
