By dropping different clues to different identities, it's meant to make Trump distrust his staff.  It sounds like the CIA penned the article to undermine the administration.  He becomes a puppet of the hard-liners by doing their dirty work.

Agree 100% with you, this is a CIA penned not anyone in the Admin.

They're trying to corner Trump into taking military action.  They know that all presidents look to the military to boost popularity in times of trouble.   The conspirators in the media, military, and the intelligence community will pat him on the back once the missiles start firing.  It was pretty obvious when John Bolton was the first to  'warn' of an imminent chemical weapons attack and the Defense Department announced they were going to turn Syria into a quagmire.
