Hello Traders, Based on your personal experience, who would be on your "short list" of companies or individuals you would select to automate your trading process. Are there any platforms that you feel are superior for this project? Thanks for your time. DrWu

Wu,
You don't say what you want to trade, stocks or futures.
Go to www.elitetraders.com and search "automated trading".
Quite a few posts are there. It will take a couple hours to filter through the spammers and flamers.
2 brokers that have APIs set up for AT are Interactive Brokers and TD Ameritrade. Check their web sites.
Software that is mentioned frequently are Ninja Trader and Cool Trade.
There may be other brokers and software.
Regards,
Dale

Darnelds, Thanks for your help!! I have looked into Ninjatrader quite a bit but am not a programmer. While they do provide a list of firms offering programming services, the names mean nothing to me. Google has led me to a new "open source" offering from Marketcetera that looks interesting. I am an index trader (ETF and options).

TTHQ moderators, Maybe it would be worthwhile to have a topic in Investors University for automated trading.

Don't most traders have a collection of rules? I think a discussion of the topic could benefit most all of us.....great idea Darnelds.

You will find that most on this board are discretionary traders. I have used most of the software out there because I use systematic rules. I like Tradestation for reliability and ease of use. My development time is 1/10th of what it used to be for implementing new systems. The thing about TS that sucks is that they don't have portfolio level backtesting. There are add-ons like Adaptrade that let you get around this. Also, there's another piece of software called Multicharts that is compatible with TS code and has portfolio level backtesting. With TS, you can only use their broker: RJ O'Brien. They are just fine though. You have to have a separate account for stocks and futures. You can't trade both out of the same account. D

Thanks D! I seem to recall that you write your own code. Is there anyone that you would recommend me hire for programming?

I recommend you hire yourself. TS has lots of video tutorials.
Nothing like self-empowerment. Sure speeds up the development
time...

What little coding I have done always seemed to help my trading.
