Bottom line, today was one of the lowest on record. and also note the majority of them are after the 2003 bottom. Feb 19 2007 is interesting because that was 10 calendar days before Feb 27 2007 or the 1st shot across the bow before the 2007 top occurred.

2/19/07 was a holiday. Since you consider 2/27/07 a pivot pls look up 4/9/07 and 4/10/07 and tell us where we stand now based on the above logic. :)

Perhaps points wise it was matched before, I wonder what the range is as a percentage of the price... Darris, do you mind?

Will, right, so the logic does not apply, however, in the new summary below Feb 15 and 16 2007 renew the logic. Now, this summary is based on SPY high-low range, and takes into account Arbman's % range consideration. I am much more confident the spy data is correct, as my ES mini data base was adjusted for each rollover, so more of a continuous contract data base and I can not verify the accuracy or assess the percent range using that data. The sort criteria used was 0.004% which is just slightly above the % range for today. The time frame expands back to the inception of the SPY ETF, but I am not sure how it accounts for dividend adjustments, so the data will not be perfect. Most of the data of small ranges is concentrated from 1993 to 1996, then a long 5 year period with no hits. The data from late 2001 until 2007 would then be more interesting and reasonable for analysis. The Aug 2006 to the last occurrence in May 2007 is the most interesting to me, because beginning in Aug 2006 that was Bear Killer advance thru the Seasonal weak period. The issue going forward now, is do we continue to get additional small range days while price grinds a little higher. Good luck!! For a non-holiday, yes that is the smallest range on the ES day session. on a percentage basis these dates come up; 2004-07-13 2005-02-14 2005-09-12 2005-11-25 2006-05-08 2006-08-31 2006-11-21 2007-05-07 If you look at the SP pre-1996 to 1986; there are over 1000. Let's hope we don't see more of these for the sake of daytrading.

Thanks everyone, I was thinking about the same, I think the market will go nowhere for sometime again! ISE Equities Closed over 200, CBOE Equity options closed around 0.52 too! These have to mark some sort of top, huh? However, OEX P/C is still very very bullish... I guess instead of turning down right away, it will simply erode the premiums due t to the strong internals...
