Despite all the hoopla over the snow in the Northeast,
the Winter of 2010 is shaping up to be warmest on record for the globe. :swoon:

Well, at least for the last 30 years since satellite data has been collected. Check out the little orange line yourself -
http://discover.itsc....edu/amsutemps/

Well, sure, one year out of three decades might not make for an unstoppable trend, but at least its less contrive than those carefully selecting their favorite previous coldest/warmest base year to get the trend they want. And certainly its got to be a little better than those going outside their house this winter and observing more snow or thinner ice and proclaiming irrefutable evidence that the other side on the debate is lying.

But what about all that snow this year, buster?!

Here is one person's opinion about why precipitation ain't temperature -

Myself? I remain agnostic.
- however, for disclosuer, I got my money on the Russians claiming most of the resources that would be exposed by an ice-free Arctic! :P
John Galt shrugged, outsourced to Red China and opened a hedge fund for unregulated securitized credit derivatives.

If the world didn't suck, wouldn't we all just fly off?

Al Gore disagrees

It would be an enormous relief if the recent attacks on the science of global warming actually indicated that we do not face an unimaginable calamity requiring large-scale, preventive measures to protect human civilization as we know it.

It is the tail end of an El Nino event. On the other hand, this is the first February that we've not seen ANY tornadoes in the US. ZERO. Weren't we supposed to see more storms due to AGW?

In any case, I see that we were a little bit warm globally this winter, but overall that's within a multi-year down trend.

Here's a link to real time satellite temperature data.

Warm weather proves it's warming, cold weather doesn't prove anything.

Yanno, this record winter probably IS just weather, not climate. But, the weather is not consistent with what the climate models have predicted now. If they were trading models, their funds would be folded up and closed long ago. Mark

this record winter probably IS just weather, not climate

Hot, extreme or violent weather (Katrina) is used ad nauseam to "prove" the climate is changing.
But let there be a decade of temperature decline or a fall without any hurricanes and it "doesn't prove anything. It's just weather."

Shouldn't there be a little bit of consistency if this AGW theory is real science?

THE TRUTH IS OUT: AGW AND CARBON TAXES ARE REALLY JUST ABOUT CLASS WARFARE

REUTERS:

To fairly divide the climate change fight between rich and poor, a new study suggests basing targets for emission cuts on the number of wealthy people, who are also the biggest greenhouse gas emitters, in a country. Since about half the planet's climate-warming emissions come from less than a billion of its people, it makes sense to follow these rich folks when setting national targets to cut carbon dioxide emissions, the authors wrote on Monday in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

... Rich people's lives tend to give off more greenhouse gases because they drive more fossil-fueled vehicles, travel frequently by air and live in big houses that take more fuel to heat and cool. By focusing on rich people everywhere, rather than rich countries and poor ones, the system of setting carbon-cutting targets based on the number of wealthy individuals in various countries would ease developing countries into any new climate change framework, Chakravarty said by telephone.

THE WHOLE ENTIRE AGW/ANTI-CARBON HOAX WAS ACTUALLY DESIGNED FOR THIS; IT WAS REALLY ALWAYS ABOUT ATTACKING CAPITALISM AND INDIVIDUALISM AND THE FREE MARKET.

CO2 TAXES - WHETHER THEY ARE TARGETED AGAINST RICH COUNTRIES OR SPECIFIC INDUSTRIES OR RICH INDIVIDUALS - ARE JUST A TROJAN HORSE FOR SOCIALISM.

An Example Of Why A Global Average Temperature Anomaly Is Not An Effective Metric Of Climate

Roy Spencer and John Christy of the University of Alabama at Huntsville have reported in their Global Temperature Report that February 2010 was the 2nd warmest February in 32 years (e.g. see Roy’s summary).

Their spatial map of the anomalies, however, shows that most of the relative warmth was in a focused geographic area;

What is the Importance to Climate of Heterogeneous Spatial Trends in Tropospheric Temperatures?

it is the regional tropospheric temperature anomalies that determine the locations of development and movement of weather systems [which are the actual determinants of such climate events as drought, floods, ect] not a global average temperature anomaly.

One of the world's most eminent astrophysicists believes the global village is ripe for salvation

Today, however, the scientist is keen to temper this world view with a glass-half-full message: salvation is possible in the hands of intelligent, global-thinking leaders working hand-in-hand with an ethical and united scientific community.

Lord Rees of Ludlow, astrophysicist and Astronomer Royal, is running a little late. Not delayed by the hiccups of mere mortals, mind - the Tube, traffic, sick children - but a high-level meeting on global nuclear arms control and disarmament.

As president of the Royal Society and Master of Trinity College Cambridge, Professor Martin Rees is one of Britain's foremost scientific brains, a cosmologist of world renown and a revered public intellectual.
