I've posted on this theme a number of times. Sentiment is way too positive and Americans are in denial, given the underlying circumstances.

So when I saw this article, a topic so near and dear to my heart, I had to re-post it:

I realize few here believe me, in my assessment that too many are too complacent, and many people think we have too many doom and gloomers. Truly those doomers are by far in the minority, and even confidence survey's skew American's sense of optimism, or rather denial, about all the truths that are going to hit them squarely in the face in the coming years.

Go outside this tiny group here, and ask your friends and family, what they really think about the economy, the level of hope they have for things getting better, and how soon they think that will happen. Don't be surprised if everyone already thinks things are dandy, or don't be surprised if they don't think things are good, and you ask them what they are doing about that, and they respond with blank stares. Sure there are a few stories of "preppers" but again, by and large, they too are extremely small percentage of the population. Probably less than 1/10th of 1%.

My dad always says things are going to be fine, and not to worry. He's lived 74 years of "fine." America always comes back, always recovers.

Ok.
