I'm very happy to see stockcharts will be adding trix capabilities to it's new charting software (currently in beta). It works amazingly well using 5/9 settings, which I depend on heavily for generating mechanical buy/sell signals on the SPX.
Short-term
Longer-term. Notice here how the indicator kept rising at the March 2003 low. We are not currently seeing the same 'behavior'. I doubt the low has been seen.
Happy trading

TomD
It's SharpCharts2 Beta release 4, not yet in production.
It's available for testing HERE
This method seems to work well on certain stocks and indices using 5/9 settings. Look at CMVT and $SPX for other examples...generally coincides with tops and leads bottoms.

Simple EMA 5/13 does the same trick like TRIX.
