This is the initial analysis by a mathematician, Steve McIntyre, who together with an economist, Ross McKitrick, debunked Michael Mann's Hockey Stick 1. The bottom line is that the hockey stick rise in the 20th century is not real, reflecting changed sample dates due (at best) to sloppiness(?). McIntyre indicates that more in-depth analysis will be published in the near future. But for now there is sufficient evidence to put this one six feet under.
