Over-the-Counter Weight-Loss Drug Is Approved

(read the article in the link above)

First of all, I do not prescribe this or any medication for weight loss.

But do you know what it's like talking to people about food for the past 20 years? Plain and simple fact:

people love to eat. Most people love to eat junk. Every body eats too much. And everybody lies about what they eat. And they will do ANYTHING to lose weight, EXCEPT eat less and eat better. There's a sucker born every minute, though, so Glaxo will make bundle off this crap. They say 5 million people will use this. Bullsh*** It will be many, many more than that. And they'll all fart like crazy, and they won't lose weight and they won't learn how to eat well. Caveat emptor.

(of course the "health food" nuts are way worse, because they are often completely wrong about what they think is "right" and they are so full of themselves its really annoying. They are like evangelicals. You are either with them or damned to hell. At leas the run of the mill fatso doesn't pretend to be high and mighty. They just want to eat a lot of crap but look better in a bathing suit. Hard to deal with but a lot more humble).

Guess if you want that bucket of chicken oily stools is a small price to pay. IMO society is getting fatter b/c of refined carbs rather than dietary fat. Unless you live off of KFC and big macs n fries...

we already have fat free chips and diet soda, sugar free ice cream, etc. Unless you want to splurge on a bucket of KFC...I don't see much value for anyone.

And..i'm not so sure many men care enough to take the drug and I doubt many women would put up w those side effects...

They'll stick to trim spa and phen phen.

Sadly, the obese/overweight population will go for the product. This is a side of human nature that nothing in my pre-med life or my medical school training prepared me for. The insanity of the fat-mob. They spend billions of dollars on useless stuff. Over and over again. They buy powders, pills, products with no knowledge whatsoever of ingredients, at health food stores, supermarkets, drug stores, vitamin shoppes, online, etc. The spend zillions. They fail. They find another product and repeat the cycle. They flock to diets with names like Scarsdale, South Beach, Cabbage, Hi-carb, low carb, hi fat, lo-cal, whatever. Spend zillions on books. Join classes, Join, quit, re-join, re-quit Weight Watchers a million times. They go from doctor to doctor for Xenical, Amphetamines, anything. They go away to fat spas, fat camps, meetings. They go to accupunturitsts, hypnotists - even chiropractors. They buy pre-packaged food from Nutrisystem, Medifast, Optifast, and others. They spend a bazillion dollars on Treadmills, "AB" rollers, fat--burners, and other expensive equipement. They line up for body destroying obesity surgery, plastic surgery, etc. I guess i've made the point. Its insane, bizarre, and sad. People's closets are filled with multiple sets of clothes in myriad sizes. And if I sit down with them, for 60 minutes and empathetically explain how we need x number of healthy, well-rounded calories from natural sources, well-balanced, with daily exercise and emotional healing from food addictive behaviour, they look at me like I'm zombie from another planet and stop at a fast food joint on the way home from the office. Glaxo knows this. They're just going to cash in big. And they'll do it with "we care about you" ad campaigns, and "free" literature and "Ask you doctor for a free sample" campaigns. Ugh. I can't wait. mm

I want it now and I don't want any consequences. I believe that self control and self discipline, or the lack thereof, affects lots of areas of life. If you could invent a pill that allows these same folks to spend more than they make and still stay solvent, you could sell 'em to 'em. How about an anti-lung cancer pill for smokers? So cheers to the "have your cake and eat it too pill"! Maybe they can put it on their charge card and not even have to pay for it. Ain't life grand? LOL!
