email I just sent to a friend who has owned FCX for many years...and who does not trade in and out like I do -

chart link -

http://stockcharts.c...allery.html?fcx

the purpose of this email is to alert you that in many cases, a third attempt (today in this case) at a price swing high is watched closely by traders and institutions for the outcome that follows...either rally failure or a price breakout to the upside.

I am purposely not commenting on other favorable or unfavorable aspects of the FCX price action since May 2006 when copper and gold prices peaked in the multi-year run...peaked so far anyway since no one knows the future.

this is a simple fyi....

this link may be helpful to you for seeing what a highly followed trader cites as important horizontal price levels for FCX -

http://www.tic-tac-d...ONENTSPAGE.html

since this site takes a while to download, here are the FCX price levels where Ted identifies price action is most likely to pause or reverse -

$60.42
58.71
56.43
54.72
51.60

Hiker... I like FCX. If you're into the materials and metals sector my LT favorites are AEM, SA, NX, NG, NAK. I also use PAAS, SSRI, AUY and ABX for swing trading. I've combed through a lot of weekly charts and read a lot of presentations and I think the first list is a really good LT basket. I expect NG, SA and NAK to be taken out before the secular cycle is over. In fact, Rio Tinto has been regularly increasing its holdings in NAK for a while. FWIW....

thank you very much Cirrus....really appreciate you sharing your favorite list....not enough of that done openly at boards like this. I will look for any updates you offer over time...have always liked your picks.

I note that you omit RIO and MLM from your fav list....

I have been trading NAK ever since Youmast brought it to this board.

SA has been a strong runner at times since 2005...

btw, ABER has been a fun swing trader between horizontal zone of $29 to 41

FCX gets more of my attention than just about every other material stock -

I own RIO. I mentioned my mainly precious metals related basket. FWIW my industrial metals basket is BWR.TO, QUA.TO, RIO, ROK.V and RNO. Obviously it's my opinion but BWR.TO is flat out going higher--barring a global drastic economic slowdown. I'm just as 'confident' in BWR.TO as I am in my favorite energy E&P AXC.TO. Check it out. I think it's trading for .75 to 2 times earnings with a nice lump of cash on the balance sheet and increasing zinc production (zinc is my favorite ind metal right now). I LOVE BWR's weekly chart, too. I own it and I'm buying any dips. It's also nicely liquid. Honestly, I can't figure out why it's not a 3 or 4 dollar stock right now.

• Norsk Hydro Buys Big Stake in Tiny Ascent Solar
at SmartMoney.com (Wed, Mar 14)

Ascent Chief Executive Matt Foster said the investment, announced late Tuesday, will help pay for construction of a production plant for its thin-film photovoltaic systems used in solar panels. The plant should reach its initial production capacity of photovoltaic cells capable of generating 1.5 megawatts worth of power by early 2008. Ascent plans to increase production to 100 megawatts as demand grows, he says.

"[Norsk Hydro] had been looking in this space for about two years, and they looked at other thin film companies," Foster says of the deal, which closed in about three-and-a-half weeks. "They wanted to move forward, and they came out for a visit. Within 30 minutes they knew they'd found the right company."

In November, Norsk Hydro made a $24.5 million investment in Norsun, a Norwegian company that's building a plant to produce monocystalline silicon wafers for solar cells.

btw, USU and URRE look strong this week, as does FRG.

I still own my uranium names....I think they need a few more days off. Resting from the recent runup. Thanks for the link to the solar names. I had many of them on my alternative list but not all. Much appreciated.
