Interesting read http://www.tickersense.typepad.com/ and also, didn't I read somewhere that the largest skyscaper is being built in China....? Wasn't the Empire Stare Bldg or Chrysler Bldg started in NYC in 1929? And a tallest skyscaper in Chicago in 1968.....major tops in stock markets...?

.....and the Petronas towers in Malaysia and Taiwan 101, just before the 1997 asian currency crisis.

construction began on santana row (european luxury mall) in san jose in 2000 . right before it was scheduled to open many of the luxury condos atop the mall mysteriously caught fire and were destroyed.

the builders were forced to rebuild the units and from what i understand they only recently sold the last ones.

Carew Tower Cincinnati (the model for the Empire), finished in 1929. Jack Emery told my dad in 1979 that they'd never made a penny on that building to date. I suspect that they finally did OK in the 80's. In 1987, George Herscu built the largest mall in the world (or perhaps this hemisphere), Forest Fair Mall. Construction began on the mall in 1986. The east wing opened in July of 1988, but due to leasing complications, the rest of the mall did not open until March 1989. The mall featured a very ornate design, including skylights, arched copper roofs, and a spacious center court. Also, the mall featured a movie theater, and an indoor amusement park called Time Out, which included a ferris wheel and indoor carousel. In 1998, David Hosea purchased a block in Newport Kentucky (just across the river and in 1999 began site preparation for the "Millennium Tower" "perhaps the most ambitious, project to be associated with the beginning of the 21st century" with the "Millennium Peace Bell" to be rung at midnight at the turn of the century. Fortunately, his investors bailed at the last minute and they mothballed the project. The site is now a parking lot. It could have been ugly. Thus far, all we have is the Ascent, which is way cool, but not the biggest or best nor most ornate of anything. I think we're safe here for a while. :o Mark
