Wasn't the Fed created with "defending the value of the Dollar" in mind, supposedly?
If so, how'd they do?

They are a printing machine. They just print. It is their job.
Congress says print, they say how many!!
You are on your own. This is for demonstration only.

Ask yourself one question: is the country better now or in 1913? If you don't want to ask this question, here is another one to ask: are you making money trading? Honestly.

Good points, Dennis. My gut feeling is that yes, we're better off now in many ways, relative to the past. Yet I also think that would be true had there been no Federal Reserve Board, and that perhaps we'd be even better off without it.Denleo: Ask yourself one question: is the country better now or in 1913? Yes, making money and these are "good times." The debasement of the Dollar still bums me out some, though.
Best,
Doug
