what surprises me is rates going up on what?

Latest inflation has actually been good (PCE Core Deflator and CPI)
GDP was horrible

A couple of good ISM figures - who cares what some purchasing managers are saying

???

Maybe people are finally not believing the "gvt total BS inflation numbers" anymore - maybe a watershed is occurring? Common sense inflation is probably near 6-8% per year at least and increasing, that is to the consumer.

I agree! But then we're back to the big question between growth or inflation

Do Fed want to be remembered as fighting inflation but putting the country into recession?

Nominal GDP was up 4.7 percent. It actually grew at a faster rate than the previous quarter when it was 4.1.
