"The iPhone's battery is apparently soldered on inside the device and cannot be swapped out by the owner like most other cell phones.Apple spokeswoman Jennifer Hakes said Thursday the company posted the battery replacement details on its Web site last Friday after the product went on sale.

Users would have to submit their iPhone to Apple for battery service. The service will cost users $79, plus $6.95 for shipping, and will take three business days.

The procedure is similar to the one it has for the company's best-selling iPod players, but because some users will not want to live without their cell phones, Apple is also offering a loaner iPhone for $29 while the gadget is under repair."

Unreal.

But you can replace the Ipod battery and there are instructions out there on the net on how to do it. Looks like you have no choice with the Iphone but to let someone do it for you. It's hard to imagine they made a battery that doesn't simply unplug. Guess that will be one of many improvements in the next generation IPhone.

My experience is Apple makes sexy good looking crappy products. The fact the battery does not unplug was by design not by accident.

My significant other bought a mega expensive Imac laptop at the same time I bought an HP laptop at Costco. The Imac has had two hard drive failures since and nightmare problems in getting the repair done and my HP laptop has not had a single problem during the same time. I would never buy anything made my Apple.

Unreal. I agree ... what a SCAM. I would never put up with that sort of nonsense. GREED, pure and simple.

Hey, I took eleven points out of AAPL in the last two days. Don't plan to buy any batteries, but can afford a lot of them. What does Steve Jobs do? He makes money for you. If you're long...

Remember this is Apple's first attempt at a phone. I would recommend waiting until the second or third generation....... Wait for a couple more years when all these phones batteries fail..... It forces the user to upgrade their phone and sign another two year contract. I wouldn't be surprised if AT&T chose to have the batteries soldered in. Barry

But for shorts, look at the new lows list, not the new highs. That's playing hero and that's for fools. You're supposed to be looking to make money, not impress folks and look smart. At least wait for the relative strength to wane. M

Technically AAPL is a great short and fundamentally as well. RSI divergence trendline resistance etc.

Fundamentally -- They did not invent a cure for cancer but rather are marketing a 700 dollar phone that you cannot replace the battery without forking over both the phone and 86 bucks.

The company's laptops cost about 150% above comparable PC and the management is unethical. My personal experience with them is their products break -- and repair is a nightmare. This company does not warrant a PE of 41.

A good short AAPL is and will make lots of money. HYPE stocks are always a good short especially after a blow off move like APPL just made the last few days.
