What would be the simplest way to cut energy use without ruining economies or trying these convoluted plans to create energy by using energy?

Turn off your air-conditioner. :sweatingbullets:
It is a big energy user.
Don't use it. Period.

Mankind has lived for millenniums without 'em.
It will not take any legislation.
It won't cost a dime, In fact it will save money from the first day.
Use the extra money to buy energy cerdits or fuel for your private jet.

All the people who clamor for environmantal taxes, treaties, laws and regulations can simply show us by example.

But I won't hold my breath.

Here's someone
"saving the planet" now:

In the meantime, don't think you are an environmentalist if your air-conditioner is on.

I don't think I'd survive long without it.
I'm doing my part to stop global cooling anyways.... :P

Those of you who die from the heat will be offering the ultimate sacrifice for those of us left here. Think of the energy all the dead will be saving! And I thank all of you, personally, in advance.

If one believes that CO2 is the problem, then they could also quit breathing.

Rodger ... I thought you were going to suggest - Getting rid of all the hot air on this board :D  :D Just kiddin .... by the way, try to survive in Texas without A/C ... good luck. Actually, I've chosen to use my central AC much less this year and have a window unit in my home office ... instead of cooling the whole house. So, doing my share. C.C. :sweatingbullets:

Seriously, A/C wastes a lot of energy when you have a multi-thousand square foot house with only 2 people who are gone most of the day. It seems like smaller "zone" cooling would save tons of energy. I do my part be keeping the unused rooms on the west side of the home shut off.

Zone heating and cooling makes a ton of sense. We have cut our average utility bill-even with the recent increases in rates by ~$100/mo over the past few years by sealing the place up well once we get too cold or warm going to a zoned heating and cooling approach and using a timed thermostat. Works very well. M

In Cincinnati, it gets hot, and muggy and it won't cool off at night at times during the summer. It's just plain nasty without A/C. And BTW, that $100/month is more like $60 on an even billing basis, but killing those big nasty bills during the winter (no more $600 heating bills), and controlling the every day cooling expense by opening it up on cool nights, keeping storms closed when the AC is on, and closing the west and south facing blinds (and even rooms) off really makes a difference. Did you know that many hotels have installed motion sensors in their air conditioners? Yep! You leave your room for a few hours and want to come back to a cool room...forgetaboudit. I tie a helium baloon to a chair by the sensor and the a/c works "properly". I have also been known to hang a long strip of toilet paper from the ceiling. The movement in the air keeps the a/c on. ;) Vegas Baby B) The cash you take to Vegas stays in Vegas.
