SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Imagine how much dithering, grandstanding, and all-around public hand-wringing we could avoid over scandals and other controversial issues if we just followed China's lead and ordered an execution every time someone messed up?

The article has spin and paints a false picture of a guy just messing up, in that it is remiss in not mentioning that 8 people died as a result of Xiaoyu accepting 850,000 US dollars in bribes and in return approving an antibiotic that should not have been, before it was fully vetted and tested. That is more than messing up. That is murder for money.

Therefore he was executed not so much for taking bribes but killing through his actions 8 people by allowing a drug that caused death to be marketed.

This was broadly reported on a few weeks ago when it happened.

China may execute a guy if he causes the government to lose face in a big way, but the truth is, it's one of the more corrupt societies on earth and there would be no end to the executions if they really meant to use it as a deterrent.

Nimblebear
Kinda reminds me of the affair in France a few years back where I recall the Minister of Health approved the release for transfusions blood he knew was tainted with HIV. Nice guy, eh? Well the French being the French let that guy kill a number of people by approving the tainted blood and then retired him on a fat government pension. Then there is the case of the French letting all those elderly and sick people die during a heat wave in their country a few years ago............................
So yes, I like China's system much better except lopping off heads is too good for them :giljotiini: . Let them die the way they condemned others to. Eye for an eye!
Peace
