I checked it yesterday a.m. about mid-day ET, and noticed it was open by invitation only to readers.
btw, one other time in recent mos. experienced this "private setting" on that specific blog.

That's what I get too. But at one time I was on the invited list (back when he started this). Maybe he's stopped the blog.

I'm in the same boat.
Even resetting the password doesn't help.
