is this skewed by all the M&A activity? (pending purchases now realized by actual transaction dates)

I don't have access to actual Trimtabs data, but I don't think so. I think they are simply buying.

There have been many articles last few weeks about high levels of insider buying. So it fits very well.

Generally, buy/sell transactions relating to M&A activities are reported on M&A activity accounting report, not as a part of insiders' buy report. I think.

I know a few companies that closed the time window for employee buying. basically, they don't want their employees to buy the stock at lows. Employees had to file applications everyday and got denied everyday recently when market was at correction.

All transactions relating to M&A activities are reported on financial statement under Merger & Acquisitions according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). By doing so, it will not confuse transactions relating to M&A from insiders' buying. Ah, I see what you might be thinking that insiders would be buying stocks in anticipation of stocks will go up after the transaction. But then, that would be using "Insider Information" which is against rule. Anyway.... whatever....

And then, of course, you've got your Reg S transactions.

That sounds so much better than insiders being net sellers in 6 out of the last 10 days.
