It's big headlines around here.

Brenda Nesselroad-Slaby, a Vice-Principal of an elementary school screws up her schedule on the first teacher-only day back to school (the day before the first day of school for kids) and puts her 2 year old daughter in the car, and instead of taking her kid to the babysitter, absent mindedly drives to work, the kid falls asleep, the mom forgets the daughter was in the car, which heats up and the child dies.

It wasn't abuse, criminal neglect or murder. She just forgot.

I feel so badly for the mother. I know I've made mistakes, I know my parents did as well.

She is distraught and devastated, but this self-righteous community of perfect mothers and fathers have taken it upon themselves to attack, berate, abuse and vilify this poor woman. It happens every year by absent minded parents. But to treat them like murderers? Isn't this a bit much?

I just can't imagine the pain and horror that poor woman is experiencing.

This happens more than it should. :( A new mother did the same here recently, but thankfully she got back to the baby and the baby recovered. Maybe somebody will put some sort of alarm in the baby's car seat which will sound when the keys are turned off if a baby is in the car seat. Similar to the keys in the ignition and headlight alarm.

It should never happen, but then again, neither should children drown in a swimming pool. There are accidents and people make mistakes. I believe that those whi pay attention can learn from the mistakes of others.

I like the alarm idea. You should invent one and get put on that show "American Inventor". :D

Here's the local cartoonist's take:

I concur.
