pc for anything but trading,..ie. web surfing etc.
Just use CCleaner/TuneUp-Utilites, and
also, many professional pc based trading systems are running a Diskepper.
If you are not running it, than you are not trading as fast or as care free as the pros.
We run Pro-Premier.
IF you don't want to run diskeeper then be sure to do a complete disk cleanup and defragment.
This along with a tune-up utilities program works well enough to keep the Pc novice from screwing up his
registry. Shutting down your Pcs unnecessary start up programs is also a good idea, there is an easy to use
feature in Tuneup utility. Even without Diskeeper as long as you use CClean & use Tuneups Utl's One-Click
maintenance you've actually purchased a in house service tech program that you only payed for once.
By having these programs you will keep your Pc running smoother everyday of the week all year, and not
just one month after a tech visit.
Also, esp if you installed the ram yourself, you may want to double check to make sure you're running the
best ram and DDR speed,(you may want better than low budget value sticks )and or run a test program on your ram to make sure it running right.
Speaking of optimization,....you might as well install a free TCP Optimizer,...just google it as it's easy to install,..
..and start soaking up more bandwidth then you thought you could.
If on cable and you pay for,...let's 5-6000kbps you might as well be getting 8-9000kbps.
Or if you pay for 10,000kbps get 12,000kbps, and so on.
First go here to test your Upload and Download speeds by clicking a city nearest you.
Then go to the installed optimizer program and select optimal settings, let it restart your pc and test again
to see the gains. Pcs come from the store the way a car comes of the lot,....if you want to race with it,..you
better change some of its stock setting,...no pun intended. If there isn't enough gain in speed, many online gamers are using a cablenut.
google that or go to testmy.net and search it.
Now stop driving the inter-net like the "lil-old lady from Pasadena"
best

Hi. I have used IB since 1999. For several years I have had no real problems with connectivity issues which could be blamed on IB. I would uninstall Java and TWS and re install. You need to keep it up to date. As well, it is important to have a machine which has a fast enough CPU if you are loading a bunch of charts in IB.Mr Dev..... Awesome post! Thanks for taking the time to explain all that!

No problem,..know thy system, processing can be slowed thus locking up programs due to extreme heat.
So make sure you do an physical cleaning of any dust bunnies that might be insulating your system.
You may need to increase your CPU cool, maybe start with a better fan? Laptop users often run aluminum tray
with2 or 3 external cooling fans to bring temperatures down.
Running high temps kills a laptop,.. even the hard drive dies sooner.
Check your temperatures and fan speeds, try one or both of the
Everest Systems they have trial versions.
Also Speed Fan
There's NOTHING magic about tuning systems to run Fast and Furious ....it just take a little effort.

I have been using TWS from Interactive brokers for quite some time. My charts and data freeze up regularly. Does anyone else have this problem? I called them last week, had me change my java, and reserve more memory for the program. Still does it..... If this has happened to you and you were able to fix it, please help........
Thanks,
Brock
You really haven't given enough information to give you any real answer. But I think one answer is that most people are not having your problem.
There have been some builds that have been more problematical than others. I'm currently using stand-alone build 877.5, and it's working without issue. I use java 1.5. There is a newer version available, but I've heard that in slows down TWS, so I have not upgraded my java.
I'm using a fairly old Dell that I've upgraded my Ram to 1gig. More than enough to operate both TWS and Ensign Software, my charting system, and ButtonTrader, a front-end order entry and management software. I'm having no issues at all.
I would pull up your Windows Task Manager (ctrl-alt-del) and take a look at what is using your system resources. Personally, I would be tempted to close the charts. My guess is they are resource hogs. But shut them down and see if you still have a problem. There are other chart software available that you can use with IB, like Ensign, Sierra, and a few others. These companies are in the charting business. IB isn't.
