This decision is foolish by the American gov't. US will most likely loose the airspace and their military center in Turkiye over this and the air base in Turkiye was used in both Iraq war for hundreds of air bombing and logistics missions, even after they did not allow the passage of the US troops through Turkey during the second war. US can not leave the region not because of the civil war danger, but they will loose all of the economic gains out they've been planning for a long time and it is only making its position more difficult... Turkiye has been simply warning US with the proofs not to supply the arms to the Northern Iraqi Kurds since they are directly used in the terrorist activities against Turkiye and they declared their decision to enter Northern Iraq indefinitely until these terrorist activities stop. The camps in Northern Iraq nurture the terrorists that infiltrate Turkiye through the long border and are responsible of tens of thousands of deaths in Turkiye for years. They only came back after the Iraq war and US aids to the region. US has no control over the region other than creating more conflict... This latest news is, imho, a response to the Turkish gov't from US by passing a resolution that has been around for about 100 years. No economic victory will come from this resolution for the Armenians, but US's decisions generally aimed to weaken the Turkiye's strong economic and territorial position over the past years. This is symbolic, but US is loosing its strongest ally in the Middle East and you can expect a faster destabilization of the Middle East... This is sad moment for both countries after the long positive friendship and economic relations...

This is the cnn news pretty much telling what I said about the loss of a strategic ally...

Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Wednesday that good relations with Turkey are vital because 70 percent of the air cargo intended for U.S. forces in Iraq and 30 percent of the fuel consumed by those forces fly through Turkey.

add in the fact that as the US and Europe dithers in its support for Turkey, the fundamentalist elements in this former model secular Moslem state can gain more supprt for the anti western sympathy, further jeapordising both Turkish moderates and Turkish-western cooperation. for Europe, those pipelines matter, for US air rights and pipelines. just my thoughts klh

Turkey is probably the only moderate muslim country in the world. US should nurture friendship with Turkey as the most important ally against terrorism by the jihadists. Much better ally than Pakistan who has given refuge to the head terrorist, Osama.
