Long article in the Sunday NY TImes magazine, by the author of The Omnivore's Dilemma.
A blistering review of modern diet and nutrition. Don't read it if you have a closed mind.

Michael Polan is great! Thanks for the link to the article. I loved his prior book "Botany of Desire". I've heard a few interviews with him on the radio, seems like he is very "agenda-less", and I mean that in a good way. If he's interested in something, he researches it, writes about it, talks about it, moves on to something else.
Hard to go wrong with the advice to eat food. If it comes in wrapper be suspicious. If you can't find it in the real world (growing in the ground or running around or on a tree or swimming or flying) be suspicious.
From there what gets interesting is the various opinions on what part of the above items have been compromised recently. Are there the same amount of nutrients in our fruits and vegetables today? Is our fish supply contaminated? Is it too hard to find good grass fed beef, pasture raised dairy products, etc. Then maybe you supplement a bit. Disclosure I take krill oil for the omega 3's, and extra vitamin C, and occasionaly some whey powder in a blender to get the benefits of raw milk. So I am not a pure foodist, but try to stay close.

If plants take in CO2 and give off O2
and vegetarians take in O2 and give off CO2
and vegetarians keep eating plants...
...Maybe vegetarians are the real source of global warming?
Sounds like we need another government funded study.
Or more man-eating plants.
