Core2duo, nvidia 8800gts, vista.. from Dell.
Let me tell you this machine is FAST. But Vista is a POS and slows down my machine far more than if XP was running on it.
For the average user.. hell even for me.. vista is a waste of time so far. But looks pretty.
How much did I pay? About $1200 w/o a monitor..
Core2duo 2.6ghz
1.5 gigs of ram
8800 gts 320mb card
160GB SATA hd
DVD burner
Was gonna go for a quad core, but after some research, will just wait for another upgrade next year. Price was right for a yearly upgrade for me. I'm the kind of guy that buys at least 1 computer a year tho.
I'm guilty of helping semis

512mb is min required. 2GB is recommended.
Its not the ram.. drivers are all buggy, code needs some optimization, etc. I recommend buying it after SP1.
Will likely format for duel boot, so I can put XP on the other end.
I ordered 512mb from dell since they charge arm and a leg for peripherals, then picked up some ram from another vendor. Will toss out that 512mb and put in another 2gb ram later, but not til my vista needs go up.

I want to buy a Vista machine, but am sticking with what I have for now. I think it will be 2008 before Vista becomes a reality for me. I have 2 desktops and a laptop all Pentium 4+. My next purchase will be a Garmin nuvi 670. http://www.garmin.co...oducts/nuvi670/. I can't slip another computer by at the moment.
