President Barack Obama announced Monday that
he will nominate Dr. Ernest Moniz to head the U.S. Department of Energy as Secretary.

As Director of the MIT Energy Initiative, Moniz assembled an all-star cast of MIT physical and social scientists to produce a June 2011 report that pointed to natural gas as an abundant, low-cost energy source that could sustain much of the world’s energy needs over the next several decades while we transition to wind, solar, tidal, geothermal and other carbon-free energy sources. It would also offer large environmental benefits because gas emits few conventional pollutants, and only about half as much carbon dioxide as the main transitional alternative: continued coal burning.

Implicit in the MIT vision was an understanding that shale gas development, using the technology known as “fracking,” should and will occur on a global scale.

What seems obvious is the Luddites are those that refuse to see science.

All they see is dollars, like the JP Morgans and Carnegies and Rockefellers, who were so sick in their attitutudes.

In other places they would have been hung or worse.

Dept of Interior Throws Celebrity Luddites Under the Bus

Obama is faced with a tough choice: On the one hand is the economic prosperity and strength of a nation with an ample supply of its’ own cheap energy, and on the other is the rabid anti-American demagogy of Enviromania such as that displayed by the Sierra Club.

Last Thursday, the US Department of the Interior released a draft proposal that would “establish common-sense safety standards for hydraulic fracturing on public and Indian lands.” Last Friday, the US Department of Energy (DOE) approved a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal in Freeport, Texas. Despite opposition from environmental groups, the Obama administration apparently supports the expansion of the natural gas industry and the controversial technology of hydraulic fracturing. These events are welcome common sense from an administration that is typically deep in green ideology.

California Legislature Defeats Fracking Moratorium

Democratic leaders brought their fracking moratorium bill to the Assembly floor last week, and their rank and file revolted. The bill lost 37-24, with 12 Democrats joining 25 Republicans to defeat it. Another 18 Democrats abstained, and it's a good bet they were "no" votes who didn't want to publicly cross their leadership. This was a rare rout of the Sierra Club and other greens that denounce "fracking" for polluting water and inducing earthquakes, among other horrors.

The votes for the fracking ban came mainly from the wealthy, mostly white Democratic coastal districts—San Francisco, Santa Monica and Malibu. Opponents were mostly from central California, areas that are poor and minority, with rates of unemployment of 12% or more. Six of the seven black assembly Democrats voted against the ban or abstained. Though the Assembly speaker is Hispanic, most of the rank-and-file Latino Democrats refused to vote for the ban.

These Democrats understand that fracking is already happening in California, especially in energy-rich Bakersfield. According to the California Independent Petroleum Association, about one-third of the active wells now use this innovative drilling process that uses chemicals, sand and water to crack shale rock. A moratorium would throw thousands of Californians out of work, and not those in Beverly Hills. Oil and gas jobs typically pay salaries that range from $50,000 to $100,000 a year and many of them are unionized.

Democrats, including Governor Jerry Brown, are beginning to see the economic benefits of fracking. That's good news for the state's many unemployed workers and economically depressed areas.

A landmark federal study on hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, shows no evidence that chemicals from the natural gas drilling process moved up to contaminate drinking water aquifers at a western Pennsylvania drilling site, the Department of Energy told The Associated Press.


Earlier the 'Eco-documentary' Gasland II premiered on HBO:

Gasland Part II, features a powerful scene showing a Texas landowner lighting the contents of a garden hose on fire. The incident is presented as evidence of water contamination from a nearby hydraulic fracturing operation.

According to a Texas court, the scene was actually a hoax devised by a Texas environmental activist engaged in a prolonged battle with a local gas company to falsely inflate the supposed dangers of the oil and gas extraction technique, also known as fracking. …

Texas’ 43rd Judicial District Court found in February 2012 that Steven Lipsky, “under the advice or direction” of Texas environmental activist Alisa Rich, “intentionally attach[ed] a garden hose to a gas vent—not a water line” and lit its contents on fire.

European countries to US: Give us your gas

In light of the recent crisis instigated by Russia, lawmakers have lately been pushing the Obama administration to expedite the more than twenty outstanding applications from energy companies for permission to export more natural gas into the world market — and a handful of central European countries are decidedly for it.

The Obama administration has signaled that they’re at least not opposed to doing more on that front, but the current situation is a prime example of just how much freer trade across the globe can help to blunt any one nations’ influence while everyone gets to reap the higher economic benefits — and it’s better to stay ahead of the game then getting caught from behind because of political and bureaucratic holdups.

I might add that European countries like Germany that have quixotically tried to ban or ignore hydraulic fracturing are probably rethinking those strategies right about now.

Hollywood celebrities caught in video agreeing to hide Middle East funding for anti-fracking film

James O'Keefe duped Ed Begley Jr. and Mariel Hemingway into agreeing to get involved with an anti-fracking movie while hiding that its funding comes from Middle Eastern oil interests.

In the investigation, an undercover journalist from Project Veritas posed as a member of a Middle Eastern oil dynasty and offered $9 million in funding to American filmmakers to fund an anti-fracking movie.



In video from a meeting with Ed Begley, Jr., Mariel Hemingway, and Josh Tickell, a Project Veritas investigator disguised as "Muhammed" offered $9 million for an anti-fracking film.

Begley and Hemingway accept the funding and agree to hide the source of funds for the anti-fracking movie.

Remember when OPEC's entire purpose was to limit supply and maintain price?
I have often wondered how much the anti oil, anti drilling agenda is being promoted by big oil itself.

A country awash in oil must control supply to control price and keep profits huge, whether that country is in the middle east or right here in good old USA.

Think about it. Both parties stand to gain huge cash payouts.
One party claims to be for more drilling, the other party claims to oppose it and it's all a "good cop, bad cop" racket!
Meanwhile supply is limited and prices/profits maintained.

Strange bedfellows: Big Oil and Democrats
BP and its employees have given more than $3.5 million to federal candidates over the past 20 years, with the largest chunk of their money going to Obama, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Donations come from a mix of employees and the company’s political action committees — $2.89 million flowed to campaigns from BP-related PACs and about $638,000 came from individuals.

Soros invests $811,000,000 to drill for oil in Brazil and the president shuts down drilling at home.

Then there is Tom Steyer: (The billionaire political operative donor that Harry Reid never mentions.)
Apr 27, 2014 · He tells Barack Obama and ... Steyer has promised $100 million ... the U.S. government should shut down the existing 100,000 miles of pipeline in North America.

You’ve got to hand it to billionaire Tom Steyer. He tells Barack Obama and Harry Reid to jump, and they obediently reply: How high?
Mr. Steyer pulled off the policy coup of the year last week when the White House announced it would place the Keystone XL pipeline in regulatory purgatory for another six months at least. Mr. Steyer has promised $100 million to Democrats to beat back Republicans in the midterm elections this fall, and the campaign funds have already paid off in the scuttling of this $3 billion pipeline project.
But all of this is a sideshow to the really big question here, which is whether the GOP leaders are smart enough to capitalize on this Keystone blunder.

But do the Repubs really want to do anything but get paid to fuss?
