I was excited by Friday's volume spike because most turns are seen at volume spikes, especially when they hit near a cycle, a full moon and the winter solstice.

Then I noticed that most pre-holiday trading days are high volume spikes.

FWIW: Note the cute Christmas trees marking the pre-holiday volume in the chart below.

OPEX related... See last year's December OPEX 12/15/17 Volume Spike...  Funny how we went to the shortest possible OPEX date  last year to the longest possible OPEX date this year on 12/21...Funny how that works... how 15 trading days can impact a month.

And if you look at that 12/15/17, that was on a new all time high, the result was a continuation into a rally into the 1/26 high...

Now wouldn't it surprise everyone if we continued down into 1/25 this time?  swoon.gif

"Now wouldn't it surprise everyone if we continued down into 1/25 this time?"

YES and NO!

Sentiment says everyone is expecting the worst and yet conditioning may be keeping hope alive just enough for something similar to December 2015 - January 2016 where late December's plunge accompanied with a similar volume spike, was followed immediately by a year-end rally, only to be followed by new lows in January. (See the similar sentiment in late Dec 2015)

History often rhymes... but Generals often lose by fighting the last battle.
