Back already.
2 nights is plenty for me.
"Hiked" the strip Saturday in beautiful weather and swarms of people.
Sunday was cold and damp with snow in the mountains so didn't get to the Canyon.
Saw a few signs of the cutbacks:
No security guards at the elevators,
Unpolished brass doors.
Only 2 cocktail waitresses in the nearly sold out Improv comedy club on a Saturday night!
Food is still no bargain unless you wait until the midnight specials.
21 only pays 6:5 for a BlackJack. Used to be 3:2.
Saw the first Craps table with an electronic payout.
It was a regular craps table but no chips, just a small touchscreen allowing you place bets electronically, reducing the number of required dealers from 3 or 4 to 1.
I met a guy from the Philippines whose friend bought one of those $600K condos.
Now it's worth $150K and he still owes $400K.
Most look empty.
The 5 billion dollar CityCenter has a few stores open.
Most had 2 sales people and no customers on a Saturday night.
I didn't make it back to see it's new
hotel-casino Aria. Too far off the strip for my feet.
I saw a big sign offering "Short Sale Real Estate!"
I met a retired LV fireman who sold everything just before the market crash.
He moved to Oklahoma's Grand Lake and fishes everyday.
He said he only fishes when he's alone or with somebody, drunk or sober, asleep or awake, day or night.
After a weekend in the desert, it's great to be back in "Green Country" where the tree pollen is off the charts.
