On Wednesday, Tokyo, along with Chicago, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid, will make a presentation to the IOC in the bid for the 2016 summer Olympic Games. As the many public works projects built during Japan’s high economic growth in the 1950s-60s are now due for major overhauls, a successful bid would spark concerted public spending, significantly boosting the economy. We will thus closely watch the candidate cities’ performances.
