Here is an EPA site (FWIW!) http://www.epa.gov/j...t-data-map.html

Hi Bob.
Every day I ask: "Can it get any worse?" Then it does.
It is so upsetting, I think most must ignore it to protect their state of mind.
It's a survival instinct perhaps.
We can only take so much bad news, then we flip on the music.
I do anyway.

Hi everyone, according to a report from enenews.com, "70,000 more 'must evacuate around Fukushima' — Contamination up to several million Bq/m2 May 24th, 2011 at 01:21 PM." The report states:

70 000 must evacuate around Fukushima, AFP, May 24, 2011:

Seventy thousand people living beyond the 20km no-go zone around Fukushima should be evacuated because of radioactivity deposited by the crippled nuclear plant, [France's Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN)] said. [...]

Radioactivity levels in this area range from several hundred becquerels per square metre to thousands or even several million bequerels per square metre, the IRSN report, issued late on Monday, said. [...]

Hi everyone, according to a report from enenews.com, "WaPo: 'Surprise!' Two more reactors melted down — TEPCO conveniently left that part out of story, but 'now people are used to the situation' May 24th, 2011 at 02:34 PM." The report explains:

Tepco: Surprise! Two more reactors melted down at Fukushima plant, Washington Post by Elizabeth Flock, May 24, 2011:

Not one but three nuclear reactors suffered a meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi plant [...]

But Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) conveniently left that part of the story out, until now. [...]

Koichi Nakano, a political science professor at Sophia University, told Reuters that the announcement was timed to minimize the impact on the public. "In the early stages of the crisis Tepco may have wanted to avoid panic," Nakano said. "Now people are used to the situation." [...]

Hi everyone, according to an article from enenews.com, "TEPCO analysis indicates Reactor No. 1 and 2 have breached containment vessels meant to stop radiation from leaking May 25th, 2011 at 02:40 AM." The report explains:

Fukushima Reactor Containment Vessels Are Leaking, Tepco Says, Bloomberg by By Yuji Okada and Tsuyoshi Inajima, May 25, 2011:

[...] The company known as Tepco said computer analysis of the meltdowns of three reactors at the Fukushima Dai-Ichi plant indicate the No. 1 [containment] chamber has one hole and the No. 2 unit has two breaches, according to a report filed a Japanese nuclear watchdog.

Containment chambers surround the reactor vessel, which holds the fuel rods, and are meant to stop radiation and coolant leaks in the case of overheating. [...]

Hi everyone, according to a report from enenews.com, "CNN: Reactors may be 'riddled with holes' — Experts suspect full meltdown at No. 1, 2 and 3 May 25th, 2011 at 03:04 PM." The report states:

Holes feared in two Japan nuclear reactors, CNN by Kyung Lah, May 25, 2011:

Two of the damaged reactors at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan may be riddled with holes, according to the facility’s owner.

The holes may be as big as 7 to 10 centimeters ( 2.8- 3.9 inches), Tokyo Electric Power Co. said in a 225-page document submitted to Japan’s Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency. [...]

A hole in the reactor’s containment vessel means there is a high probability of the leakage of radioactive material into the reactor building. [...]

Nuclear experts and scientists have long suspected this sort of damage to the containers of the reactors at the crippled plant, as well as a full meltdown of the fuel rods in reactors 1, 2 and 3.

Hi everyone, according to an article from enenews.com, "Huge Outcry Erupting: Gov’t is leaving Fukushima to suffer and perish — Impossible to evacuate Fukushima City, home to 300,000 May 26th, 2011 at 02:40 AM." The report explains:

Angry Parents in Japan Confront Government Over Radiation Levels, New York Times by Hiroko Tabuchi, May 25, 2011:

A huge outcry is erupting in Fukushima over what parents say is a blatant government failure to protect their children from dangerous levels of radiation. [...]

“I don’t believe the government,” said Kanako Nishikata, 33, a mother of two elementary school children here. “The air here is dirty. The soil is dirty. They are leaving Fukushima to suffer and perish.” [...]

“They know it’s impossible to evacuate such a big city [Fukushima City, home to nearly 300,000 people],” said Seiichi Nakate, a social worker who rallied local parents to found the Fukushima Network for Saving Children from Radiation. “But at least they should help evacuate the children, or do more to bring down the radiation.”[...]

You knew this was going to happen.

'Radioactive sea life' off Japan...

The report is from Greenpeace:
Greenpeace said it detected seaweed radiation levels 50 times higher than official limits, which it charged raised "serious concerns about continued long-term risks to people and the environment from contaminated seawater".
It also said that tests, which it said were independently verified by French and Belgian laboratories, showed above-legal levels of radioactive iodine-131 and caesium-137 in several species of fish and shellfish.

Remember the good old days when all we had to worry about was mercury?

Hi everyone, according to a report from enenews.com, "New TEPCO analysis shows 94% of nuclear fuel melted in Reactor No. 3 May 26th, 2011 at 02:55 PM." the report explains:

Large scale melt predicted at units 2 and 3, World Nuclear News, May 26, 2011:

Computer analysis of reactor damage at Fukushima Daiichi has indicated more serious fuel melt has probably occurred than previously thought at units 2 and 3. [...]

For unit 2, the [...] second scenario has only about 12% of the core remaining on the support plate, with the rest having fallen into the water in the the lower part of the reactor pressure vessel. This may have happened by 15 March. [...]

For unit 3 the story is similar. [...] In the second case, some 94% of the fuel is assumed to have dropped into the water below by the morning of 14 March. [...]

Analysis of unit 1 suggested the entire core had fallen into water in the bottom of the reactor pressure vessel [...]
