Can anyone explain the business relationship between physicians and the medical associations they frequently work within? I am referring to groups of physicians all housed in a common complex, sharing a lab and clerical services. Do the doctors get paid comission on the lab work they generate? Is there some financial advantage for referring patients ot one another etc. I have had some odd experiences in a place like this recently.

I have a friend who works in a lab.
The doctors sent their specimens there.
The lab paints the doctor's house and trims the bushes.
It's all above board.
