As much as I 'feel' that a dive below 1000 on the SPX is likely I just can't find any reasonable model for it based on history. This is what my 2012 projection looks like based on past history. The three lines indicate optimistic, neutral and pessimistic projections. All called for an immediate rise towards 1300 which might very well happen since DAX closed up 3% today.
