HI,

I am currently writing a piece on the Angora goat bubble in the 1980's (peaking about 1986), where goats were selling for unbelievable prices and I think its going to happen again:

If anyone has any personal experiences of this, or stories to share, I would be very pleased to hear from you.

Only if the goats knew about what was going on while changing hands in a speculative frenzy, but it was actually the investors following the herd mentality... LOL I bet there was some sort of govt stimulus involved... No better cause comes to my mind, I would look for this kind of fundamentals, if you want to see a repeat... <_<

Well I do know that you only get virgin wool from very fast goats.

I think that was near the end of the Global Cooling scare drummed up in the 70's by the environmentalists.
Everyone who wanted an Angora wool sweater, had one, including a president who was known for his sweater.

Additionally, the Angora Rabbit became the newest fad at about the same time.
They were much easier to breed and raise in apartments.

Thank you all very much. I see it was fuelled by the demand for mohair.

It looks like Arbman get the prize on this one: Guberment tinkering pulled the wool over the rancher's eyes.

"A change in taxation rules burst the bubble."

In the 1980s investors seeking exposure to the corporate farming sector traded goats like shares.
This time it is not city-based investors fuelling a bubble but sheep farmers looking at ways to circumvent the high New Zealand dollar and what some consider to be questionable marketing structures.
To meet insatiable demand, thousands of animals were sourced from Australia, with some bucks selling for more than $100,000 at the height of the fever.
A change in taxation rules burst the bubble.
