Americans are an interesting breed indeed. Complaints about gas prices, which relative to the vast majority of the rest of the planet are dirt cheap here, surely havent affected their craving for Suvs. And oh btw they still do suck a lot of fuel. And id say drving around in my hood there are 4 suvs for every 1 car, and then ironically the cars are either espensive bmws or mercedes or they are cheap little corollas. So maybe suv buyers feel a tad guilty and buy the small car to feel better ? But when you go shopping to either grocery, malls, drycleaner, any little errand, they are driving the suv, one person in it, not the little car.

Go to a mall, and the lots easily 50 to 60% suvs. At least around here in the burbs of chicago. Maybe its because they feel bigger on the road, and safer ? Maybe its because they like to see over the car in front of them ? Who knows, but thats one addiction thats not going away anytime soon, and i doubt $5 gas would put a dent in sales.

Sales of smaller cars are amazing though, when you consider youd be crushed if in an accident with any suv out there. Or even if you ended up not dead and uninjured, your car would be totaled. Cant tell you how many suvs walk away with barely a scratch, and the small car gets towed away in a teeny tiny lump of metal. The bumpers and tires of the suv just go right over and thru the car. Maybe thats why they remain so popular.

Anyhoo, the demise of suvs anytime soon isnt likely to be in the cards, so those of you wishing for lower prices on them this go around due to high gas prices, may want to look elsewhere. In fact, used car prices are insanely high right now. All shapes and sizes. Interesting economy we have here. If its not homes or educations for our kids we are putting our money into, its cars of all shapes and sizes. So goes the car, so goes our economy. True ?
