Seems pretty obvious to me that they are selling the metal and buying the miners...
All that means is they aren't prepared to gamble with the metal, taking the profits, making smaller bet in miners, just in case gold goes UP.
That's not gonna work either.

Today's XAU Forecast
(5PM Yest)
XAU may have dodged the bullet for now as it pushed much lower to a low under 157 at 156.76, but managed to close back just over 160. We'll need to see the volume on this new and improved low for better resolution. Short term support 159, 157, 154, 151 and resistance 161, 164. Gold was down sharply today, but the XAU recovered.
(Update)
XAU pulled back on about the same volume, going to need to hold 160 now to stay out of trouble.
Today's Gold Forecast:
Gold was smacked down again on Thursday off the 1670 down to a low of 1636, finishing the day at 1648. Daily volume was strong but hourly was not as strong as what we saw on Tuesday, nevertheless the damage was done as gold closed down another 20 pts. Looks like the bounce can continue here to 1659, 1666, if gold can break over 1652

Gold has proved nothing here in a few years now, if it can't break out to new highs it's done.
