We have all heard about "jobs that Americans won't do".
Why would they do them when they will lose their "benefits"?

Last week an unemployed relative was offered a job but it would cause her to lose her benefits, so she refused it.

During the depression, my father did not get paid to not work so he did what he could to eat including pick cotton.

BLS: Unemployed More Likely to Shop Than Look for Job...

A limit on benefits works wonders to inspire fear and motivate action.
Fear is a marvelous thing which has often motivated me!

CBO estimates that extending emergency unemployment benefits would increase in the duration of unemployment for some people.
Specifically, in response to the extension of benefits, some unemployed workers who would be eligible for those benefits would reduce the intensity of their job search and remain unemployed longer—which would tend to decrease output and employment.
