Rather listless choppy markets...

The case for stocks being made on

is that liquidity is adding to economic growth - "a powerful combination." But, these 2 factors were known in late March/early April. The difference is that the S&P is +1000 handles. A rising market produces a deteriorating reward to the upside vs risk to the downside. No one, is pointing out to the reduced margin of safety and worsening reward v risk, as the inevitable return of the economy and the monetary assist come to the fore. Money, big money is made in the anticipation when stocks are under pressure, not +1000 S&P points later. Many of the same panelists who had their head under the desk in mid March are confident in their optimism today. "Price has a way of changing sentiment." (h/t

) Where are the contrarians?

BUT, the recession is already over!

U.S. ECONOMY ENDED EXPANSION AND ENTERED RECESSION IN FEBRUARY 2020 - NBER

NBER: Economy Peaked, Entered Recession, In February 2020 https://nber.org/cycles/june2020.html

Quite obvious given nature of this crisis, but today’s recession start announcement is fastest has ever made in terms of time from peak in activity to press release

At 3200, the S&P 500 is sitting 9% above "the average level where strategists expect the index to finish 2020. That's the widest gap in Bloomberg data going back to 1999."
