I get interest from IB maybe little over 1%.

Lot of my portfolio is in variable annuities and the MM fund is yielding slightly negative because of life insurance built in annuities. The huge advantage in variable annuities is, as opposed to 401-k's and personal IRA's, there is no limit how much money one can place in annuities. Trade results in annuities are 100% tax deferred . For example my annuity portfolio is worth 4 times what I paid for initially. But I did not have to pay any cap gain taxes. Just like IRA's annuity becomes taxable when you sell and take money out of the annuity. So a great place to trade indexes.
