GDX looks to have bottomed 12-3, let's see what she can do. IJR looks like a solid buy also.

Miners have lagged gold for some time.

My thought is that inflation is good for gold but bad for very expensive mining operations.

Energy, equipment, labor, etc. if available, costs are going up.

Roger, I think we need a really good "scare" for the miners and gold to move. GDX/gold will not move until the general public is drawn to them.

 

Meanwhile, for me, trading in and out on a two hour time frame works for me. Then again, as I get on in years, I never hold anything long term. This way minimizes risk for me.

 

I believe miners are still making money. If I remember correctly, gold over $1000 is profit for most of the outfits.

 

FNV, NG and WPM are moving today. Somebody is really liking those royalty companies.

 I like it. Especially in a ROTH with no tax implications.

However, longer term, I have a problem with GOLD vs USD

The latest data shows that sentiment in gold is at its lowest point since late-October as funds liquidate their bullish bets.

The CFTC disaggregated Commitments of Traders report for the week ending Dec. 7 showed money managers dropped their speculative gross long positions in Comex gold futures by 12,402 contracts to 125,067. At the same time, short positions dropped by 1,058 contracts to 44,326.
