But I went with a projector instead. Now I can make my screen as big as I want, it stores neatly, and its portable.
High end projectors will also do HDTV, and I'll be upgrading as soon as they resolve the dvd hd format. No use getting one now. I was pumping HDTV through my projector but cable company barely provides enough channels and I rarely watch TV anymore.
For home theater experience, you want a dark room, big [bleeep] picture, and kick butt sound. My $1000 projector pumps out a bigger picture than an $80k LCD TV. When I upgrade to the 1080i projector, it'll cost me $2000. I have to buy bulbs though, around $200 for about 2500 hours of viewing. My guess is bulb prices will come down after a while.

I get it, but I didn't buy a projector, because it does not fit well in my house. I do not have a theatre room were it can be dark enough to be lighted by a $1,500 projector, so a TV does the job. I haven't bought HDTV yet. I have regular TV with a great picture, so I don't yet see the necessity in making the next step higher until my TV craps out. Projectors are still high for bright projectors to be ideal for large screen format, plus they do wear out after 3 years versus 8 years for LCDs and 6 years for Plasma,

Saw one at Sam's with DVD built in for $300. Alternative to TV and LCD for the price.
Remember this day, men, for it will be yours for all time.
