I have a book on the great depression and two things sort of popped out at me today. During the start of the collapse of the depression the volume of trading was so heavy that the ticker fell behind and people were not getting up to the moment data on the market. Today, I'm hearing that we may have experienced a similar situation, the computers could not keep up with the volume. One of the slogans used by the powers that be to prop up the markets at that time was that "the economy is sound". And today, on public radio I heard someone saying that we should not worry too much about the drop, "that the economy is sound". I forget which economy he was talking about, Possibly Europe's. In any case, today those two items, the sound economy and the selling volume breaking down the reporting of stock market activity both flashed me back to the description of what went on during the collapse in 29. Nothing to worry about gentlemen, the economy is fundamentally sound!
In the end we retain from our studies only that which we practically apply.
