May want to buy corn futures as this cold snap which is hanging this week in the corn belt in most of midwest is likely affect a lot of planting that happened already. Everyone thought corn prices were high because of ethanol, may want to take another look because if its like this guy we could see much higher prices. A whole lot of farmers switched to corn from soybeans this year. They may be sorry..... "...this is just to give you a heads up on the weather. we farm here in Missouri. the temperature was 28 when we woke today, several degrees cooler than we expected. They are forecasting lows in the mid-20's both Saturday and Sunday morning. because of the high prices, we planted our whole farm in corn. Yesterday it was doing quite well--1 to 2 inches tall and growing. today, it's dead. we'll have to totally replant when the ground dries again. Local farmers who have wheat expect they'll have to destroy it and plant another crop. The local peach orchards may not have any production at all this year." I have a holding in DBC ETF from a little while back.

The temperature is forecast to drop to 16 degrees F on Saturday and Sunday nights here in Kansas City. Lilacs are in full bloom and I fear they will totally turn black and have to regrow. We have had 27 degrees 3 times this week, but 16-20 will freeze almost everything that has leafed out. I would imagine that Iowa corn is not up yet or hasn't been planted yet, but Missouri and southern Illinois will have to replant.

It was a one day heat wave breaking the record of 73 degrees set in 1977. Today it's raining again.
