does anyone really believe inflation is down? somebody do a poll on that subject

It doesn't matter. Based on their practices, the Fed is tolerant of real world inflation
up to 5 percent or so. If they calculated the health and education/communications
components honestly, those two small categories (20 percent weight in the CPI) would
alone add 1.1 points to the CPI and 1.8 points to the core CPI.

I can't believe the media spin on these numbers. "Good news, less than expected, takes pressure off the Fed, inflation abating, bla, bla bla". Did anybody notice that a core rate of 2.4% yearly is well above the Fed's target? And even that is number is massively understated.
You got to love it.
